Bay Federal Credit Union Announces Winners of 2023 Education Scholarships
Capitola, CA – July 19, 2023 – Bay Federal Credit Union announced the winners of its 2023 Education Scholarship and Mac McCormac Employee Scholarship. Members Katie Wise, Nadia Ramirez-Cerillos, and Frank Campo were named Bay Federal’s Education Scholarship recipients. Employees Vanessa Gomez and Albert Vizcarra were awarded the Mac McCormac Scholarship in honor of Bay Federal’s first employee. All five recipients have each been awarded $1,500 towards their education-related expenses. Over the last 15 years, Bay Federal has awarded 80 scholarships totaling $84,000 to promote education in the community and among its membership.
“It’s our pleasure to be able to contribute to the education of these hard-working students.” Said Carrie Birkhofer, Bay Federal’s President and CEO. “We look forward to seeing the real difference that these individuals make in our world using the knowledge and experience gained through their educational pursuits.”
The application process included an essay on what financial wellness means to the applicant and how businesses, colleges, and communities can better deliver equitable access to financial wellness topics and resources.
Bay Federal Credit Union Student Education Scholarship Winners
• Katie Wise of Boulder Creek will be attending Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California to pursue her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Nadia Ramirez-Cerillos of Watsonville will be attending San Jose State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a concentration in law.
• Frank Campo of Del Rey Oaks is attending John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, to pursue his master’s degree in computer science.
Bay Federal Credit Union Mac McCormac Employee Scholarship Winners
• Vanessa Gomez, a Member Relationship Specialist at the Credit Unions Salinas branch, is pursuing her associate degree in business administration at Monterey Peninsula College.
• Albert Vizcarra, Service Manager at the Credit Unions Salinas branch, is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Arizona's Global Campus.
